Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Ascot Vale, Flemington and Kensington
North-west of the city, Flemington is home to the racecourse where the Melbourne Cup is run on the first Tuesday of November, and Ascot Vale has the showgrounds next door. Kensington is a village of terraces and converted warehouses, Moonee Ponds centres on Puckle Street and its cafes, and Essendon spreads north with large Federation homes towards the old airport.
During the Spring Racing Carnival this corner of the city is at its busiest, and racegoers keep the hotels and bars full for weeks. Melbourne escorts who live in the north-west often host in quiet streets and travel to the city and the airport hotels for out-calls.
The Craigieburn line runs through Kensington, Moonee Ponds and Essendon, trams link Flemington and Moonee Ponds with the city, and CityLink passes close by on the way to the airport. On race days, give yourself extra time.
