North Adelaide
Across the River Torrens and its parklands, North Adelaide is the older, quieter half of the original city plan. Its wide streets are lined with bluestone villas and grand nineteenth-century homes, and two strips carry most of the life: O'Connell Street, with its pubs and late kitchens, and Melbourne Street, with smaller restaurants and boutique stays. Adelaide Oval sits on the riverbank between the two halves of the city, and the footbridge makes the walk from the station area a few minutes.
That mix of calm streets and good restaurants makes North Adelaide a natural place for a dinner date before a booking. Several small hotels and guesthouses here suit a discreet overnight, and the centre of town is close enough that an out-call from the CBD takes no time at all.
