Pennant Hills, Thornleigh and Beecroft
Between Epping and Hornsby the northern railway runs through a chain of hilly suburbs where houses back onto bushy gullies. Beecroft is the quietest, with a small village of shops beside its station. Pennant Hills has a larger centre and gives its name to the road that once carried heavy trucks past its doorsteps, until the NorthConnex tunnel took most of them underground. Thornleigh, further north, has a shopping centre and a long strip of businesses along the main road.
All three have stations on the line between Hornsby and Strathfield, so the city is reachable by train, though most locals drive. The area is mainly houses with some apartments around the stations, which gives a mix: a few in-calls close to Pennant Hills and Thornleigh stations, and more out-calls to homes on the leafy side streets.
