St Peters, Sydenham and Tempe
South of Newtown the inner west turns industrial. St Peters is best known for Sydney Park, a large green space built over old brickworks and tips, whose tall chimneys still stand, and for the motorway interchange beside it. Sydenham is a few streets of houses and warehouses around a busy station, and Tempe runs down to the Cooks River, with planes passing low overhead on their final approach to the airport.
Warehouses here have been turned into studios, offices and lofts, and that gives the area a share of private in-calls in converted spaces. It is also handy for travellers: the airport terminals are a short drive south, and the Princes Highway links straight back to the city. Out-calls reach homes in Tempe, Marrickville and Sydenham without much trouble outside peak hour.
