City Beach, Floreat Beach and Wembley Downs
City Beach is the closest stretch of ocean to the city centre, a broad white beach with grassed terraces, a surf club and a couple of beachfront restaurants. Floreat Beach runs on to the north, and behind them both lies Bold Park, a large reserve of coastal bushland with walking trails and a lookout over the coast and the city. Wembley Downs sits just inland to the north, a suburb of family homes stepping down towards Scarborough.
This is one of the quietest parts of the coast, with no hotel strip and very little nightlife, so most bookings are out-calls to private homes or in-calls in nearby suburbs. A swim or a sunset walk on the sand is an easy way to begin an evening, especially in summer when the sea breeze drops away towards dusk. Public transport out to the beach is limited in the evening, so a car or taxi is the practical way to come and go.
