Eltham, Montmorency and Briar Hill
Eltham has a character all its own: hilly streets of mudbrick houses among the gum trees, a long tradition of artists and craftspeople, and Montsalvat, the artists' colony with its stone halls and gardens, on the edge of town. Montmorency, next door, is a quiet suburb of bush gardens and a small shopping street, and Briar Hill sits on the slopes between Montmorency and Greensborough.
The north-east is relaxed and leafy, and it suits people who prefer a slower pace. There are only a handful of listings in these suburbs themselves, so most bookings here are out-calls from Greensborough, Heidelberg and the inner north.
