Boronia and Ferntree Gully sit right at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, and on a clear day the forested slopes fill the view at the end of every street. Boronia has a busy shopping centre around its station, and Ferntree Gully follows Burwood Highway towards the national park. Just above them, near Upper Ferntree Gully, the 1000 Steps climb through tall forest and tree ferns and draw walkers from all over the city.
