St Kilda Road and South Wharf
St Kilda Road leaves the city at the Arts Centre and runs south as a broad, tree-lined boulevard of office towers, apartment blocks and hotels. The Shrine of Remembrance and the parkland of Kings Domain sit on its eastern side, the Botanic Gardens beyond them, and the road carries on past Albert Park Lake towards St Kilda Junction. South Wharf, on the river west of Southbank, is home to the convention and exhibition centre, a restored nineteenth-century sailing ship and a strip of riverside bars.
Both pockets see a lot of business visitors. Conference delegates fill the South Wharf hotels for days at a time, and the serviced apartments along St Kilda Road are popular with people in town for a week or two. Melbourne escorts who work this part of the city are used to arranging evening visits around a full day of meetings, and many are happy to come to a serviced apartment as readily as to a hotel room.
St Kilda Road is one of the busiest tram corridors in the world, with services every few minutes for most of the day, so getting to and from the city is simple. South Wharf is a short walk over the river from Southern Cross and Spencer Street.
