Ballina and East Ballina
Ballina sits where the Richmond River meets the sea, with a main street of shops and cafes, a riverside walk, the fishing fleet's wharves and, by the highway, the giant prawn that has greeted travellers for decades. East Ballina, on the other side of town, climbs the headland to the lighthouse, with surf beaches and rock pools below and holiday apartments looking out to sea.
